Inger Stern

Senior Consultant/Partner

Inger Stern joined Brakeley as Senior Consultant in 2016. She has worked professionally with fundraising since 2003.

Between 2003-2015, Inger Stern worked as Fundraising Director at Linköping University. She helped the university set up their fundraising operation and then led two capital campaigns. The first campaign, called “Forskning & Framtid”, had a regional focus and supported the development of Campus Norrköping.

The second campaign, called Expanding Excellence, had a national focus. This is one of the first capital campaigns among universities in Sweden. The campaign exceeded its target of raising 250 MSEK and ended in 2010. More than 70 individuals, private foundations, corporations and other organizations contributed with major gifts to this campaign.

Inger also has extensive experience of managing strategic partnerships between Linköping University and corporations. Foundation management was developed within Linköping University during this time, Inger was one of the driving forces. She also run the board work for the private foundations that were raised within the campaigns. An annual fund, “LiU Fund of U”, was developed during her leadership.

Inger Stern has been invited as a speaker to conferences regarding fundraising and strategic partnerships, for instance: CASE Europe, CASE Nordic and Brakeley Nordic open training course on major gift fundraising.

As Consultant with Brakeley, Inger has worked with clients such as Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet SLU, Malmö högskola, Mälardalens högskola, University of Helsinki (Finland), Sankt Eriks Ögonsjukhus, Aarhus Universitetshospital (Denmark), Världsnaturfonden WWF, Stockholms stadsmission, Blomsterfonden, and IVA.

As Fundraising Director at Linköping University Inger was often contacted by colleagues from other academic institutions as specialist and support in their build up process. As a result of these more frequent requests Inger was one of the promoters of the “Network for professional fundraisers” (Nätverket för filantropisk finansiering) which today still is an appreciated arena for exchange of experiences for professionals within fundraising.

Inger lives in Norrköping together with her three daughters. Before she joined Linköping University Inger was working within sales, marketing, project management and business development. Inger is a qualified Engineer in mechanics and has held Project Manager positions in early industrial projects, new product introductions, for example in air handling and telecom business. She has also been the Managing Director in a spin off company from SAAB Technology and during 2015-2016 she held the managing position within a management consulting firm. Inger is/has been Board Member in different boards such as: municipal-, limited companies (AB), local banking and non-profit organizations.
